Help Us Fight for More Federal Medicaid Funding
With the emerging downturn in the national economy, we are concerned that falling revenues may force states to cut their Medicaid spending. That’s why we are urging Congress to provide a temporary increase in federal Medicaid matching funds so that states will not have to cut back on benefits, eligibility, or payments to providers at the same time that unemployment is rising. Please let your legislators know your support for this temporary Medicaid assistance to the states. Contact: Marsha Greenfield, (202) 508-9488.

Good Samaritans Take to the Hill
Last week, 45 representatives from the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society visited Washington for their regional meetings and used the occasion to discuss issues of concern with their congressional representatives. The attendees visited 39 legislative offices and met with staff members from the Senate Finance Committee, which has jurisdiction over Medicare and Medicaid, and the Special Committee on Aging. The Good Samaritans got our grassroots advocacy off to a great start this year, but we need your help to keep that momentum going. Please consider scheduling a visit with your legislators on April 1 during our Future of Aging Services Conference. Contact: Louise Maus, (202) 508-9487.
