Can’t Come to Orlando? AAHSA Brings the Annual Meeting Experience to You!
For the first time ever, AAHSA will offer a free Webcast of the Closing General Session at the Annual Meeting & Exposition, Oct. 24, at 1 p.m. Eastern time. The "Life of Legacy" general session will feature ideas and insights from Jerry Friedman, an award-winning photographer whose book Earth’s Elders offers a glimpse into the hearts and minds of the 62 oldest people on earth through his camera lens. Now, Friedman is on a mission to instill reverence for our elders among today’s youth and better unite people of all ages. This session will also feature some of the children attending the Annual Meeting and a performance by New York Repertory Company High School for Theatre Arts.

Let’s Talk About It!
Following the session, at 3:30 p.m. Eastern time, Friedman and AAHSA’s President & CEO Larry Minnix want to hear from you. Call-in live and share your own intergenerational initiatives and discover how your peers are building a lasting legacy across generations. Contact: Nataki Goodall, (202) 508-9471

Ask Your Legislators to Support Our Staffing Legislation
Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) recently introduced H.R. 3784, legislation we initiated to require separate reporting of staffing expenditures on Medicare cost reports. The Long-Term Care Quality Improvement Act would address concerns recently raised in the press and among policymakers about excessive profits private-equity firms received by acquiring nursing facilities. Separate reporting of staffing expenditures would show how you are using Medicare funding to provide high quality care and will help us defeat future proposals to freeze Medicare reimbursement. Contact your House member and urge them to cosponsor this legislation. Contact: Marsha Greenfield, (202) 508-9488.

AAHSA Supports Children's Health Insurance Program Renewal
Larry Minnix recently wrote to all members of Congress urging them to override the President's veto of legislation to reauthorize the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). He said, "Like the elderly whom our members serve, children represent a vulnerable population with significant health care needs that it is in our best interests as a nation to meet." The House is expected to vote on this legislation on Oct. 18. Two-thirds of your legislators must support this legislation to override the veto. If you would like to express your support for SCHIP, you may contact your legislators through Families USA, a fellow member of the Leadership Council of Aging Organizations coalition. Tell Presidential Candidates How to Improve the Health Care System
Dr. Mike Magee, CAST's new Senior Fellow in Health Policy, recently launched Healthy Voices, a national project to encourage Americans to share their views on healthcare. From Nov. 4-11, individuals across the country are asked to tape members of their communities discussing their take on America's healthcare system. These tapes will be shared with presidential candidates and used to start ignite a national conversation with them about the health care system our country's citizens deserve. Contact: Anton Zuker

HUD: EIV Coordinators Must Re-certify
HUD reminds owner/agents that Enterprise Income Verification (EIV) coordinators must complete an updated Coordinator Access Authorization Form (CAAF) requesting re-certification of their
contract(s) and/or properties and submit it to HUD's Multifamily Helpdesk annually. If the initial CAAF was sent between July 21- Nov. 30, 2006, the re-certification CAAF for must be sent to HUD before Oct. 31 to avoid a possible service interruption. If the initial CAAF was sent between Dec. 1 - Dec. 31, 2006 the request must be sent between Nov. 16 -Dec. 14 to avoid a possible interruption in service when the year ends. EIV coordinators who submitted their initial CAAF requests for EIV access to HUD's Multifamily Helpdesk on or after January 1, 2007 do not need to submit a request. Another procedure should be in place and announced before the end of the year. Contact: Colleen Bloom, (202) 508-9483.
