Marvin Mashner accepts seat on CARF Board of Directors

AAHSA president praises Mashner’s ‘leadership in aging services’

Tucson, Arizona — January 2, 2007 — Citing Marvin Mashner’s distinguished career in health and aging services, members of the CARF Board of Directors unanimously voted him to a seat on the eleven-member board. His term expires December 31, 2008. Mashner is president and CEO of ACTS Retirement-Life Communities, Inc., in West Point, Pennsylvania. Since 1977, Mashner has served in key leadership capacities at ACTS, a not-for-profit corporation which operates eighteen Lifecare continuing care retirement communities in five states.

Larry Minnix, Jr., D.Min., president and CEO of the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA), said Mashner is "an avid supporter of accreditation" and acclaimed his "long career in leadership in aging services."

"I hope my experience and exposure to acute care, long-term care, and educational accreditation brings a unique background to the CARF board," Mashner said.

An active member of AAHSA, Mashner was a delegate to the White House Conference on Aging in 2005. He also served two terms as commissioner and member of the financial advisory panel of the Continuing Care Accreditation Commission (CCAC) before CARF acquired the commission from AAHSA in 2003.

"My position as commissioner during the transition of CCAC from AAHSA to CARF gave me added insights in developing consistent standards that can serve most industries by focusing on persons served," Mashner said.
