At special dinner and awards galas held on May 8 at four locations throughout Connecticut, Nightingale Awards for Excellence in Nursing were presented to 14 nurses nominated by Masonicare. The Nightingale Awards program recognizes hundreds of nurses throughout Connecticut for their dedication, commitment and generous contributions to the field of nursing. The program is open and inclusive of all healthcare settings -- hospitals, home health care, health centers, schools, health departments, long-term care, nursing schools, agencies and medical practices.

More than 300 residents, family and friends celebrated the completion of a $1.7 million renovation of OakBridge Terrace Assisted Living Residence, located on the campus of Azalea Trace in Pensacola. The 13,000-square-foot project added 12 new assisted living rooms including four private suites each with its own kitchenette and living room. Other key elements include a country kitchen, expanded dining room, den with a fireplace, new bathing spa and updates to the lobby, library and nurses lounge.

This award, presented only when merited, goes to an individual whose contribution to the profession has resulted in a lasting and meaningful legacy. Catlett has served Lakeview Village for 33 years, 16 as Board member and 17 as CEO. His most recent accomplishment was bringing Whole-Person Wellness to the Lakeview community, thereby establishing Kansas as a leader in this area.

Ronald Bergstrom of Dallas, TX has been tapped as new CEO of Lakeview Village, the largest Continuing Care Retirement Community in Kansas.
Lakeview Village, a 96-acre Continuing Care Retirement Community in Lenexa with some 830 residents, has selected Ronald C. M. Bergstrom to replace esteemed retiring CEO Richard Catlett. Bergstrom has 23 years of experience in senior services, encompassing Continuing Care Retirement Communities, acute care hospitals, Centers on Aging, and community based services. He has overseen the addition of Alzheimer’s care centers, assisted living residences, skilled nursing facilities, and residences at some of the organizations where he has served. The Meadows of Napa Valley, a 20-acre Senior Living community in Napa, is expanding its community and services, marked by a Groundbreaking Celebration that occurred on Saturday, January 26, 2008, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Fair weather greeted the more than 150 dignitaries, residents, executives, and partners, who enjoyed a one-hour program, a Groundbreaking Ceremony, and a Celebratory Reception.

Village Shalom named its 2007 Employee of the Year and Rookie of the Year at a recent employee recognition ceremony. Before the presentation of the awards, President and CEO Matt Lewis commended all staff members for their extraordinary dedication to serving Village Shalom’s residents. Dennis Nealey was named Employee of the Year. A Vietnam veteran, former paramedic and retired Mission Hills/Prairie Village police officer, he joined the Village Shalom staff four years ago as a driver. Tim McFarland received the Rookie of the Year award, which is presented to a Village Shalom employee who joined the staff within the last year. He has worked in the Facilities Maintenance department since May 2007. Prior to joining the Village Shalom staff, McFarland spent 18 years as a firefighter and paramedic in Tucson, Arizona.

Foster City Council Authorizes Preparation of Ground Lease with PRS for Development of 10.5 Downtown Acres
